About Cupkates
Hey everybody! My name is Katie Thompson and here is a little bit about myself and my business.
I am a 23 year-old recent graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno. I was born and raised in the Las Vegas valley, having attended Faith Lutheran High School and graduated in 2004. It has always been my dream to start my own business, and since another passion of mine is baking, the idea of gourmet cupcakes came to mind!
I started practicing and developing all of my flavors when I was a junior in college. I tested them out on my roommates, my boyfriend, and various friends and family. Through trial and error, I developed my own menu. When I graduated in December 2008, my first move was to start materializing that dream, and I instantly got to work on establishing my business. And thus, in March 2009, Cupkates was born!
I am initially starting as a catering business, and I plan to have my own store front and bakery by next year. Down the road, I also am interested in starting a puppy cupcake service called Pupkates, that is going to have six different dog-friendly cupcakes. Not only am I baking cupcakes, but I am also in the process of starting my own clothing line- it will be called “Cupkates Couture”. It will begin with three tops and one dress, with each item being named after one of my cupcakes.
In addition, I base my business around my faith, which is a strong influence in my life. It’s important to me to not only serve every customer to the best of my ability, but to also serve the Lord and to run my business through Him.
